Sudden Slow Internet Speed in India Due to Undersea Cable Cut
The cable system – SEA-ME-WE 4 (South East Asia-Middle East-West Europe 4), which connects South East Asia and Europe through India and the Middle East, has been reportedly cut damaged at three spots. Repair work on the cable is underway and is expected to last for at least four days and in turn affect the internet connections in India.
The SEA-ME-WE 4 is an international sub-marine cable consortium of 16 companies including BSNL, Airtel and Tata Communications. Atleast 3 different under sea cables have been broken, out of which the cable located near Italy is going to effect the Indian Broadband Connections.
This is not the first time India had to face slow internet speed due to disruption in a cable system. In Jan 2008, the country lost 50 to 60 per cent of Internet bandwidth due to a breakdown in an international undersea cable network.

Debajyoti Das : @ abhi - Ya.... In fact my net speed is a bit slow... but the main problem I am facing connection timed out. The pages need constant refreshing. Hope this gets over soon.....
Vishal B : It was running quite okay till 9.00 pm IST. The sites could be opened only after many refreshes... I thought of a BSNL service breakdown and googled it to find some tweets & your news.

Debajyoti Das : @ gagan - Well its doesn't seem to have affected everyone..... but many users have been. I remember last year I wasn't affected....
Debajyoti Das : @ sree - Not every one has been affected. @ vishal - I am affected for the last 2-3 days. And I am having the same problem.... not slow, but sites open after a few refreshes.... Btw, try using open dns. It helped a little.
