Amit : Yes, sometimes we may need access to some urgent email when we are offline. Another way may be to use a desktop client like Microsoft Outlook or Thunderbird or you can even create a private posterous blog and set up Gmail filters to send every email to that private blog. Then at the end of the day download your entire blog using HTTRACK website copier.
Debajyoti Das : @Amit - Pure Pro Geek :P Gr8 Idea of forwardong mails to posterous.... and then simply downloading the blog.... if you have any article written please post it here...
Amit : Actually I answered a reader's question, he was concerned with sharing attachments and email messages. The tutorial can be found here Steps in brief: 1. Get a posterous blog, password protect it 2. Go to your email account and set up an email filter - choose forward all messages to post@posterous.com 3. Now whenever a new email hits your inbox, it will be forwarded to posteerous and a new blog post will be auto published in that blog. 4. Now to keep an offline copy of every email message, Install HTTRACK website copier (www.httrack.com) and you are done. You will have to remove the password protection before downloading the blog, hence choose a very weird address for the blog Actually it's a great way to share email messages with attachments with multiple people without having to email each of them separately. Your article is good but there may be another problem. I have tried saving an HTML copy of the email message in my computer but it does not work ( see case ). This is because when you go offline the webpage starts loading all Gmail scripts, unable to find it crashes the page and all you see is a stupid flashing page for nothing. A workaround is to install a PDF printer and Download a PDF copy of the email in your computer
Debajyoti Das : @Amit - Thank You So much for the Tutorial ..... Btw, note that I have said about clicking the "Print All" option in Step3.. This converts all the replies into a static clean page without scripts.... which when saved works really well. Anyways I will update this post asap with your posterous method.
yuval : Posterious - note that when you create a filter in GMAil, the original sender has to be a contributor to your blog. Otherwise, he/she will get a message from posterous stating that he/she does not have the permissions for posting.
