Block Facebook at Work, School- Restrict Facebook Access in LAN
If you are an employer or a school internet network admin, then this post will show you how to easily block facebook at work, school or even restrict facebook access permanently on the whole LAN internet network.
Restrict, Block Facebook Access at Work, School PCs
Step 1 : Log into your Windows Account with Administrator privileges.
Step 2 : Access the Hosts File at C:/Windows/System32/drivers/etc/hosts
Step 3 : Add the following lines below the lines containing 127.0.0.1 localhosts as shown…
127.0.0.1 facebook.com
127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com
Step 4 : Save the File. You can add other websites like twitter, orkut etc. in the same way.
This should work fine. Facebook will be blocked in this case as long as the host file has the changes done above.
The best thing about this way of blocking facebook and other sites is that if you change the host file of the main server PC in the LAN network then the whole network won’t be able to access the blocked website.

Amit : But this does not block the mobile version of Facebook at m.facebook.com, you can still access the basic version from that address. Another way is using the demo version of Opera mini at http://www.opera.com/mobile/demo/ or using proxy sites....:)
Debajyoti Das : @Amit: Execellent Suggestion !!.. So one has to add m.facebook.com also to the hosts file. Btw, shouldn't subdomains be blocked if anyone blocks the root domain ?
