Create Friend Lists in Facebook-Block, Filter Profile Info for Privacy

If you didn’t knew, you can manage friends better by grouping them into specific lists which has useful functions in around facebook. You can use these lists to quickly send a message to the people in the group list etc.

How to Create Friend Lists on Facebook

Step 1 : Click on Friends navigation link and then Click Edit Friends button to go to the friends’ manage page <link>

Step 2 : On this page, click on the Create a List button to create a new friend list group.

Step 3 : Finally click Create List to create the list with the selected people. You can always add more people to lists or remove them.

Manage Privacy : Who Sees Your Profile Information & Who Doesn’t

I think this is the most useful use of the friend list feature. Just like status messages you can choose whom you want to show your personal information etc.

For eg. if you want to show a phone number only to the people from work and hide it from the rest of the world then you can create a “list” with your friends from work and and show your contact no. only to the “work” list.

Click Edit Profile, scroll down to Contact information and click button and click Custom edit … then add the name of the list to the Make this visible to field.

Show or Hide Status Message from Certain People using ‘Friend Lists’

You can choose a group of people whom to show or not to show a status message by using ‘friend lists’. This way you can use it to your advantage while posting facebook status meant for specific people.

Showing “Featured People” on Your Profile Page

In the latest facebook profile layout you can show the profiles of your relatives, parents, siblings and the love of your life in the sidebar on the left of your facebook profile page.

You can now also show any friend list as featured people on your profile page apart from the above relationships. (see right)

Similarly you can use lists to filter, block data and information in various settings in facebook like notifications, updates etc.

Remain Online or Invisible on Chat for Specific People

When you create ‘friend lists’ they show up on chat window.

You can choose to show invisible (offline) to everyone by turning off [Go Offline] to all but stay online only for certain people on your list.
