Create Wi-fi Hotspot for iPad, Laptop by Tethering iPhone’s 3G
With the rise of popularity in smartphones, it’s no surprise that tethering has become a popular option for getting Internet access. The process involves setting up a special connection between your smartphone and your computer or other device. Once a connection is established, your smartphone can share the data signal it receives from your cellular carrier with any connected devices.
The question you’re likely wondering is exactly how you’ll tether your device. The answer to that depends on what device you have. The answer varies based on whether you have an iPhone or Android device.
Setting Up Internet Tethering on the iPhone
On an iPhone, tethering can be enabled by launching the Settings app. From there, select the option for General, followed by Network. Scrolling down, you’ll notice a button that’s labeled Set Up Personal Hotspot. Clicking that will walk you through setting up tethering, and you’ll then be able to share your iPhone’s data wirelessly, over Bluetooth or over USB.

Of course, that option requires paying a separate charge for your carrier’s hotspot service. If you’d like to avoid this, your iPhone must be jailbroken (see: jailbreaking iphone). On your jailbroken device, load the Cydia app store and take a look at some of the options available. The apps MyWi and PDAnet both offer free hotspot functionality. All you need to do is install the apps and launch them.
If you own an Android phone, the process is similar. Devices with carrier-supported tethering have an app pre-loaded. This app will be labeled 3G Hotspot, Mobile Hotspot or something similar. Just like the iPhone, all you need to do to tether is launch the app and go through the setup process. For a free option, your phone will have to be rooted. Assuming your device is rooted, installing the app Wireless Tether or PDAnet will provide the same functionality.
Once your phone is set up to tether, all you have to do is connect your computer to your phone. This is the easiest part; all you have to do is connect to your phone just like you would a Wi-Fi hotspot. The connection works just like a typical Wi-Fi connection, only without the hassle of setting up routers and home networks.

If you ever need quick Internet access, whether it’s to access a provider like best hosting or just check your bank account, tethering is easily the best solution.
