How to Unlock / Unhide / Show the Administrator Account in Windows XP ?
In every installation of Windows XP there is a built-in and default administrator user account named Administrator, which is equivalent to super user or root in Unix system. However, if you have set up another user account in Windows XP, the Administrator account will be hidden, cloaked and invisible in User Accounts or Computer Management.
Now the Question is How to Unhide it ??
To see the Administrator account, you have to Boot Windows in Safe Mode. However, you can modify the Windows registry so that the Administrator account will be shown at Windows XP Welcome screen for you to select, in the Control Panel’s User Accounts and in the local user lists in Computer Management.
How to ??
1. Launch Registry Editor.
2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList in the
Registry Editor.
3. Double-click the Administrator key in the right pane.
4. If the Administrator key doesn’t exist, right-click on the above
tree in the pane, choose New, DWORD Value, name it Administrator and press .
5. Type 1 in the Value data box, and press .
Note: To launch User Accounts in Control Panel, you can go to Control Panel -> User Accounts, or click Start -> Run, and then type Control userpasswords and press Enter.
Once you unhide and reveal the Administrator account, you can change its picture or assign it a password or change the password. In addition, on the next boot to the Welcome screen, the Administrator account will be visible, along with all of the computer’s other user accounts.

vikrant : how can we do so if we have a limited account
in the right plane of user list there isint any administation
amd when i am click the right mouse button in the right plane to make administrator
then i click on new then on DWORD value
it shows
CANNOT CREAT VALUE:ERROR WRITING TO REGISTERY

my pc is not not booting up when i switch it on.when i press reset button its booting and working properly..
sometime it is stopping suddently and restarting itself..what may be the problem?

Debajyoti Das : @ Sandeep - It a coomon Problem which happens when the Windows Files become corrupt...
Just Re-Install Windows and everything will be just Fine. Sometimes defragmenting the C:/ drive also helps....

Thats not possible... but you can access the Administator Account, which requires no Password.
Wolf : Its working for me just fine.
But i dont think you can do it on a limited account without certain access policies.
you can be on a limited account and do everything an administrator can if given the access though.
Logan : ok... there are a ton of ways to make myself an administrator... but the IT guy at my school has really out done himself here... i can't run the command prompt as admin., i can't boot in safe mode b/c you have to type your account name and password, i can't access the registry editor, i can't access the console manager.... idk what to do?!?!?! all i want to do is download and install an audio driver. some one please help me.
Innomen : The Administrator account is not like root, the SYSTEM account is root. System as far as I can tell can only be logged into in a roundabout way using the scheduler.
In run type...
at 19:50 /interactive "cmd.exe"
Set the time (24 hour format) to 1 minute ahead. This will schedule the launching of a cmd window, and since it was the system that launched it you can then end task your explorer and launch explorer from the spawned window and gain access to "SYSTEM"'s desktop.
If you can find a way to enable the SYSTEM account as a login choice (this method does not work for that) I would love to see it.
To see evidence of SYSTEM, attempt to create an account named system.

Anddy_2011 : If you lost windows password, you can go into safe mode (F8 when booting up) to recover windows password while you forgot user account password,but if you forgot administrator password,there is no way to change administrator password while you forgot it,you must use software to recover administrator password.my favorite is windows password seeker.
