Hard Disk Formatting – How do you Format a Hard Drive ?
A friend of mine, Tanmoy was asking, “I want to format a sata HDD (Asus mb) without a floppy disk drive”.
So I thought writing a post would be better. Formatting a hard drive is a basic task in working with computers and something everyone who does more than type on a keyboard should know how to do.
Formatting a hard drive is not complicated, but it should be done with caution because there’s the potential of losing a lot of data if you’re not careful. There a many ways to format your Hard Disk. I will Discuss 3 easy ones of them which I generally Use. Steps : Ps: Note you wont be able to Format C:/ Drive (or the system drive i.e., where window is installed) Type 2 – Formatting a Hard Drive using Windows CD while Re-installing or Repairing Windows
Type 1 – Formatting a Hard Drive Partition from the My Computer Interface
Steps :
- Insert your Windows CD in the Optical Drive (CD/DVD)
- Restart your PC
- Wait for the option “Press any key to Boot form CD…” . Then press any key.
- Now this Screen Will Come. Press Enter.
- Now Wait for this Screen
- Delete all the Partitions
- Now Press C to Create a New Partition.
- Set the Size according to your needs. For eg. if you have 80GB HDD and you want 4 Drives. Create the 1st partition with 20000MB (20000MB=20GB).
- Similarly Create the Rest of the Drive Partitions This Way.
- Now, Select the Drive you Want to Install Windows in and Press Enter to continue Installation.
- And, after 30 mins of Installation your PC will seem as New One.
- Don’t Forget to Install the Drivers for your Hardware.
Type 3 – Expert Easy way to Formatting a Hard Drive ( I used this previously )
Steps :
- Since, Learning & Experiance in better than Implementation
- Call your Friend who knows how to do Step 2 .
- See what he is doing to gain knoledge out of it. So that you can use it next time.
