Should Blogging, or Atleast Using Email, Taught in Schools ?

funny toon professional blogger

First of all, let me start with 3 small "stories" you might come across…

Story 1 : At College…

Teacher : I want the Operating System assignment to be submitted on Sunday.
Student1 : Sunday ? Sir will you come to college that day ? Where to find you ?
Teacher : Oh no, you can send an email attachment at abc@xyz.com. That will save you printing costs…
Student1 : OK… BTW Sir, Are you on Facebook ?
Student2 : What’s an email attachment ? Where to find Face Book ?

Story 2 : At School…

Teacher : I want you do an 5 page essay on "Linux Distributions".  Use your computer & internet.
Student : What’s the last date of submission…
Teacher : You can submit the printouts on Monday.
Student : Can we email it to you…Sir ?
Teacher : No, I think emails are destroying the culture of education. Hence I don’t use them.

Story 3 : At the Internet Lab…

Student : Why isn’t blogger.com opening ?
Internet Lab Assistant : Hey you… Orkut, Fb and blogger are banned in this college …
Student : Ya, I am ok with the blocking of orkut and facebook. But why Blogs ?
Lab. Assistant : Because, we don’t have these in the syllabus…
Student : Are we allowed to read other peoples blogs ?
Lab. Assistant : ???? ?????
Student : Is that an yes ?
Lab. Assistant : What’s a blog ?

I am sorry if this offended anybody but this just a small glimpse of what’s happening around us. In today’s world where many are struggling to get a google wave account, many are still thinking that emails are uncultured, rest don’t even know how to use it properly.

Many might say that most of blogging is a professional and money making thing. But I think there are so many good things associated with it. I mean wouldn’t it be great if your subject teacher at college posts videos, articles etc about the subject he is teaching on his blog. Or atleast answer to some emails & questions which may not be possible for a student to ask in class.

I know there is this ‘Generation Gap’ thing. But do you think it should be seriously dealt with by introducing in in the curriculum. So that our generations and the coming aren’t devoid of the wonderful web applications and functionalities which can improve our lives much more.

I think that where most bloggers do their part of creating awareness writing about various innovations etc.

If AlDS awareness programs can be launched… then why not Web 2.0 awareness… Because I think the ignorance of the people towards the internet advancement is a much greater virus to be dealt with.
